Privacy Policy

deskMonk is a desktop app that cleans storage, maps disk usage, encrypts files and runs a focus timer. Everything it does with your files happens on your computer. Your files, file names and folder paths are never uploaded.
Data that stays on your computer
- Your files: scans, cleaning, the disk map, and the disk speed test all run locally.
- Vault: your Vault password is never stored or sent anywhere, and nobody can recover it. deskMonk keeps the list of your encrypted files on your computer only.
- Settings and free plan usage: the language, today's free plan counters (bytes cleaned, files encrypted) and your subscription status are saved in deskMonk's settings folder.
Anonymous usage statistics (only if you agree)
On the first start, deskMonk asks whether you want to share anonymous statistics. If you say no, nothing is sent. If you say yes, deskMonk sends:
- a random installation ID that is created on your computer and is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID;
- the app version and the operating system (macOS, Windows or Linux);
- when a scan or cleaning finishes: the number of files and the total sizes per category;
- when the app starts: your hardware model (for example the CPU, memory and disk names);
- which features you use, never their content: that a Vault was encrypted or opened (not what was in it), that a Monk mode session finished, that the Pro dialog opened and from which button;
- whether you use the free plan or Pro, and whether deskMonk came from the Mac App Store or our website;
- your country. Our server (Cloudflare) works it out from the IP address of the request; the IP address itself is not stored.
deskMonk uses this data only to see how the app is used and to improve it. It is not sold, not shared
for advertising, and not used to track you across apps or websites. You can turn it off by deleting
deskMonk's telemetry settings file; deskMonk then asks again.
Purchases
- Mac App Store version: Apple handles the payment. deskMonk only asks Apple whether this Apple ID has an active Pro subscription and does not see your payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy.
- Version from our website: Paddle (paddle.com) is the seller and handles payment, taxes and invoices. deskMonk's license server stores your license key, the email address Paddle passes on for the purchase, the subscription status and end date, and the random installation IDs of the computers that use the key (up to 3). Paddle's privacy policy applies: paddle.com/legal/privacy.
Children
deskMonk does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
